- All acts must be under 7 minutes. We will have about 7 to 8 acts within 75 minutes, so shorter is better.
- Space is limited, so the maximum number of act participants is 6 adults. If you require an allowance for more people, you'll need to get that approved ahead of time.
- In all cases, decisions of the judges are final and will not be open to debate, unless we determine a Lincoln-Douglas is required.
- All acts must be somehow geek-related.
- All acts must be appropriate for this event. We are supporting the charity, SafePlace. Please review the Austin Browncoats mission statement and our support charities for more information.
To sign up for the Talent Show, please email Claudia at claudia@austinbrowncoats.com with your Name(s), Act Name, Phone Number, Best Form of Contact (email, phone number, etc.) and a 150 word or less description of your act, including a genre title, i.e. poetry, martial arts, singing, dancing, etc.
All-Nerd Costume Contest

- Costume must be Nerd/Geek related.
- You can enter as a group or individual.
- You must prepare a 1 minute (or less) description of your costume.
- While we are not banning "cosplay", please realize that you only have 1 minute to present your costume.
- All props must be Austin-legal.
- You do not have to sign up for the Costume Contest until the day of the event. We recommend you sign up early, because based on interest, we might have to limit entry.
Sci-Fi S.A.T.
- There will be three rounds of questions. The first round will consist of twenty-five questions, the second round fifteen and the third round ten. Individuals will compete based on single elimination. If you get one question wrong, you are eliminated. We will go through all twenty-five questions for the first round. Whoever is left will compete in the second round, etc.
- There will be a variety of questions, including spelling, history, science, mathematics, etc.
- The rounds and questions will get more complicated over time.
- You will have 30 seconds to answer your given question. After thirty seconds, we will ask you to give us an answer. If you can't, you will be eliminated.
- When someone answers a question incorrectly, the emcee will give the correct answer.
- At the conclusion of the final round, if there is more than one person left (after all ten questions are asked), we will go into sudden death. We will ask round five-level questions to the remaining contestants until we have one winner left standing.
- You do not have to sign up for the Trivia Bee until the day of the event. We recommend you sign up early, because based on interest, we might have to limit entry.
- Disclaimer: Your Sci-Fi SAT score cannot replace your High School SAT score. But, we bet your Sci-Fi SAT score will look great on your résumé.
